After being here for a few weeks and walking everywhere, I was getting a bit sick of walking. It takes ages to get anywhere and waiting around for buses and trains were not really that fun.
I went online and searched for any bike shop in Perth, trawled through mountain bike forums to see if there were any cheap bike deals, and also physically visited bike shops to see what they have that's worth the money they were asking for. The bike shops here, and I guess anywhere for that matter, were not really centrally located, so more walking for me just to get a bike. After spending about 1 week looking for a decent deal.. I gave up on Perth online shops and physical shops and decided to go with what I am familiar with. Torpedo7.co.nz a New Zealand no frills bike shop.
The bike arrived in a big brown box, with "Ghost" written on it. I was anxious so I opened it:

The bike was partially assembled but i had to buy some tools to fit it all together. The bike did come with user instructions on how to put it all together too, but alas.. too bad i do not read German.

After assembling the handle bars, the pedals, seat, disc brakes and wheels, i had to carefully setup the disc brake clearance so that they do not rub all the time and also adjust the seat and handle bar position so they fit me perfect.

The brand of the bike is "Ghost" and I think it is really cool, especially in matt "duck poo" green.
As for specs, its a Ghost Dual Comp 08, and yes, its a dirt jumper..why? because my previous bike was a dirt jumper and the angled top tube looks cool
7005 T6 DB DRG frame
RST Gila Plus T8 shocks
SHIMANO ALIVIO componentry
SRAM TRX Shifters
SHIMANO 485 Disc, 180mm front and back
GID LIGHT stem
GID RISE LIGHT, 600 mm handle bar
AHEADSET STS headset
GID LIGHT LASER seatpost
GHOST VL 2064U saddle
GHOST LIGHT Pedals
ALEX DP17 rims
DT SWISS 1,8 spoke
Schwalbe Albert Sport 2.25 tyres

Its not the top of the range componentry, but it has shimano hydraulic disc brakes and what sound to me like a good branded components. Its not like I am going to compete in races with it, so it will suffice.
After 1 hour, I finally got it all assembled and it does look cool.

I must admit, it looks the business with the white contrasting adjustable shocks. I was contemplating changing the tyres to slick so it would be more efficient on the road, but hey, its a cheap bike so i figured i'll use up the tyres and get some nokian next time.
All up, it cost me about $1000 AUD for the bike, crash helmet, tools, rear flashing light, bike lock, and hand pump. Not bad at all considering that a bike of similar spec would cost more than $1000AUD in the shops here.
I took it out to terrorize the neighbourhood and adjusted the gears and brakes further.. and it rides mint.. despite the cheap shimano alivio components. Thanks Torpedo7.co.nz for making it affordable!
Will write more about riding tomorrow.. what do you think of the bike?

I'm no bike/gear snob as such, but it looks pretty cool to me. Torp7 rocks.
Went out with Mark O, Craig from Jiva’s team and Rob and two of his friends to Hunua for a MB ride on Sunday. A few hours worth. David Liu was meant to come. You probably know him, he’s Asian, or something. But anyway. He was meant to come, but he chickened out because he was hung over.
No one broke their back, or their pride, so, yeah, it was a good ride.
Thanks. Good to know that the work tradition of MTB is still strong. I used to cycle with Dave Casey and Dave Larsen at woodhill.. Apparently there's a MTB track here too.. but its really far away.. Being a bum and all it would be great fun.. but if i get injured..i dont think the system here will cover me.
you should give David Liu a hard time. Were you the hard out one among them?
I read your article at skykiwi.. you are part chinese now...comrad haha
